Huge portions of mediocre food but great outdoor seating at the Beixinqiao location

After reading the horrible reviews here, I've decided to write a small defense letter for Grandma's. I work next to the Beixinqiao branch of Grandma's, and though I don't dine there frequently I do go there once in a while. The service is usually attentive and nice (specially if you speak Chinese), portions are huge, the 30Y/glass house wine is more than drinkable and most importantly the place is super cozy with wooden clad walls - glass ceiling interior and a nice small open-air courtyard.

As far as I know (please correct if I am wrong), Grandma's Kitchen started in Chengdu and is Chinese owned and aimed at a Chinese audience. Taking this into account, one can't really complain about the quality and sophistication of the food, just think of most Chinese restaurants back home. And where it lacks for quality it makes up in quantity - all the dishes are monstrously big (soccer-ball size burger-buns, huge plate-size pancakes, an actual steak for breakfast etc.).

Recommended for: when you are in the area, munching on a hang-over, a nice chat over a glass of whine and a cheese quesadilla in a quiet courtyard.
