I like Home Plate Bar-B-Que because I simply like biting the food served here.
The atmosphere is very modest-laid-back and the interior decor could, I suppose, handle a bit more character, but I still appreciate substance over appearance in this case.
The staff seems to speak English with varying levels of competence, however, they seem to be doing their job with decent courtesy and a refreshingly efficient no-frills, let's-get-this-done- attitude. What's most surprising: I've been here quite a few times with varying amounts of people, but not once have I witnessed a screw up of orders, even on quite busy summer nights with fully seated tables inside and outside.
The selection is ranged, with my personal favorites being the pulled pork sandwiches, the cheeseburgers, chilli-cheese fries and fried pickles. All of these have a smoky, hearty taste to it that hits the spot perfectly after a busy week.
Prices charged at Home Plate are absolutely reasonable - a cheeseburger is priced 30-40 RMB - and kick any 70 RMB burger's ass to the moon and back (Blue Frog, I'm talking to you).
A huge downer for me is the unfortunate location: plan in a 30-minute cab hunt on a busy night.
But this is really not your fault, Home Plate. Please don't change, you're doing great.

Re: Nailed it.
I'm not thrilled with some of the servers here.

Re: Nailed it.
Pretty good food. But 150rmb(about 25 bucks) for the half rack of ribs is a little too stateside to make me a frequent customer.
