A cake might be something you only need once or twice a year but in Beijing, I have always been disappointed by the quality and price of good cakes here 300-400rmb at the German bakeries and Chinese bakery cakes are totally abysmal.
Whenever someone is having a birthday we usually end up at compoirs getting a mousse cake but after seeing the reviews here my friend ordered 2 cakes for 2 upcoming birthdays and we were so impressed with the quality and the service.
She ordered a carrot cake and a NY cheese cake to be delivered of different days and with custom messages on each. The order process involves emailing the Australian woman who makes the cakes and that was it, the cakes were delivered to her door at the precise time they agreed upon by a foreign dude. The cakes range from 200-300kuaiish with a 15kuai delivery fee and they take cash on delivery.
I was lucky enough to be invited to try both cakes and they were incredible. The carrot cake was not too sweet, with thick cream cheese, nutty icing. The cheese cake had a layer of chocolate on top and was decorated with fresh strawberries with the message standing up in icing letters running around the cake, it was thick, rich, creamy and amazing.
A wonderful service, Beijing needs more people like this, I can't imagine she makes a lot of money on these cakes after ingredients costs, delivery and time, she seems to be someone who just really likes feeding people cake.. Beijing's Marie Antoinette!
