I was a little bit suspicious when a friend of mine invited me to go to the Tairyo nearby Sanlitun. We went for the 'All you can eat' menu, which is 178 kuai (not 168 mind you) is a lot more of my average dinner. Anyway, off we went and when we reached the place I realized that it wasn't a buffet but you had actually to order from a menu and a chef would have cooked it right in front of you on one of those Japanese-like tables.
I thought 'Ok, this is the usual scam...they will take 3 hrs to bring a slice of fake salmon and that's it!' (you can't stay more than 3 hrs).
But I have to admit I was wrong. The stuff is pretty efficient and they never made a fuss for whatever we ordered (and we ordered a lot). We didn't have any rice because we wanted to try all different kind of meat and fish.
I have to say the beef is the best I have ever tried here in Beijing....never tasted anything so soft and tasty here so far. Fish (I love salmon) is fresh and of good quality, and also the rest was of good quality.
Portions are a bit small for my taste, more like a starter for me...but I eat a lot if I like what I am eating and you can keep ordering.
Another great thing is that drinks are included, so you can go down asking for wines and spirits if that's what you like.
At the end of the evening I was full and my friends were all pretty drunk.
We ate very well and service was good. I would give the place 4 1/2 star (not five because I would have likes to have bigger portions or a buffet style 'all you can eat')
