For good reason, Kro's Nest is a sympathetic favorite with the city's expats, but I suspect its legacy will eventually be defined by the quality of its brand and not the ugly fallout between owner Olaf Bauer and his former business partner. There're good reasons for this, too: the pizza's exceptional, and the salad's huge, and the drinks are good, and everything about the setting -- from the bar next to the sliding front door (painted with an oversized Kro's logo) to the staircase in the main dining room to the glass ceiling -- emphatically suggests it was the design of an ambitious, dedicated team of people who really care about the small details that make all the difference between an inspired product and a run-of-the-mill cash drain. It's the difference between trendsetters and imitators: the people over at Gongti should take note.
I've reserved a star from the rating because both times I went Kro's was still ironing out kinks during its soft opening, but one can't expect perfection right off the bat (might be suspicious if it was too perfect in the beginning, too). The Kro's team is willing to listen to criticism and adapt, and that's a good sign; there's no reason to believe it can't become one of the premiere dining establishments in the city.
p.s. The staff can feel free to accidentally add bacon to my pizza any day
