You know, I learned more about China from Lao She's play, Teahouse, than just about anything else I'd ever read about China. History books tell you facts... how many people died, what "happened". But Teahouse, through it's characters and setting, painted a more accurate picture of China coming out of Dynastic history into it's revolution than any historian could have dreamed of portraying.
That said, this place has nothing to do with Lao She whatsoever! If you want something related to him go check out his historical site of a house in a hutong somewhere near the forbidden city.
What I will say is that, a lot of foreigners come to China and get lost in the party scene or whatever. This place puts on a good variety show to keep you in touch with China's highlights. Definitely a great place to bring guests for a one shot show of some of China's best talents and in a great location. Just down the street there's a great joint to get real traditional Beijing noodles. Well, that's my two yuan... you should go at least once!
