I consider this place to the Chinese to be similar to a TGI Friday's or Chili's or some other major restaurant chain to Americans. There are several chains of them all around Beijing. They are all relatively upscale and contemporary in decor, with uniformed staff.

I've been several times to the one on DaZhong Si. I really like it. The food is not too expensive (although obviously more so than the street), about 50 RMB for one main dish with meat. I always get some sort of chicken dish that comes out in a metal pan over a flame to keep it hot. Their dan dan noodles are some of the hottest I've ever had, but I still keep eating them. The tea duck (cha ya) is also quite good and served with cute little buns shaped like clam shells.

This is a place to go when you are in the mood for something spicy and want to go somewhere that's reliably good, without taking many chances, but nothing too out of the ordinary.
