I'll give my home country three (and a half) stars for now - I would give it four stars for sentimental reasons, but given its current dreary state, I can only muster three.
I used to be bored with and enjoy ragging on my hometown of Houston, but the longer I've been gone (18 years and counting) I find myself longing for its warm weather and cheap real estate and am happy to see it's done relatively well since the shit hit the fan.
Austin was a blast in college and grad school - beautiful scenery, great weather and a thriving cultural scene - but it was starting to get a bit smug in that SF way when I moved away. I'll bring my family back there to check it out some day, but I'm glad it's behind me.
As for LA/Orange County? Eesh. I've been going here the most on my jaunts to the US in recent years, and while I love the sun and surf as much the next guy, it's hard to muster much enthusiasm for a region that's so utterly bankrupt, it's literally falling apart. Flying from LAX back to T3 is always a stark reminder of this.
