Good for socializing, but pass on the food

The Bookworm is something of a Beijing institution, and a regular hang-out for anyone remotely interested in books or intelligent China commentary. It manages to attract a broad range of quality speakers including novelists, scholars, historians and journalists. Event prices are very reasonable - usually RMB 30 to 50, which includes one drink to get you in a sociable mood.

The alcoholic drinks are fine and the coffee in the cafe is passable, but I'd pass on the Bookworm as a place to eat. The food is relatively expensive and very ordinary. I've eaten there several times over the years and have been disappointed on every occasion.

A great venue for drinking, talking, socializing, book shopping and listening to informative talks, but not a place for dining.
