Sure Capital M is far off for regular CBD slicks, but it's more than worthy to venture down to Qianmen for the experience of the Capital M itself.
I was invited to Capital M by a friend of mine, to join a party of six enjoying their Sunday Brunch.
The venue design is one of the nicest in Beijing (meaning: it feels high-end but not pretensious). The cutlery is all custom made (carrying the M signature) and the plates and all is very lively. The staff was well trained and everything was perfect in the service scope.
As for brunch, I will not say it is the best in the city, but for 258RMB I will say it's well worth its money.
For the price you get one starter, one main and a dessert. Besides this you get a welcoming drink (cocktail or fresh juice or so) and unlimited coffee and tea.
I opted for bloody marry and it was the best i had in ages (shame to all cocktail bars in the Jing).
As a starter i went with the terrine thing with figs. Loved the terrine, although the figs could have been fresher. overall very nice dish though.
Main, I opted for the tripe and they were exactly like my Italian friend's grandma used to do them. Finely cut, with the right spices.. If i had a say to it, i would only add a few fine slices of parmigiano to it..
For the desert i've chosen the rhubarb thing with the sorbet. Ok, although, trying the famous Pavlova few of my friends have ordered, I know i will opt for that one next time instead.
Overall, a very nice lunch experience on the edge of Tiananmen, in one of the nicest environments in the City.
And by the way. If you do plan to venture there, make sure you have a reservation. Giving their location i would say Saturday and Sunday must be their bussiest days and without reservation you probably won't get a table.
Enjoy.
