shame on me for forgetting about this place.... I had not been there for almost a year until yesterday evening when I wanted a good comfort meal somewhere quiet. A quick phone call confirmed they were still in business and a quick taxi ride got me there.

To its credit, Abella has been a nuren jie/xingba lu stronghold for a few years now and deservedly so.

The place is small and simple, nothing fancy! One room with warm tones and a proper pizza oven.
The staff is some of the better trained one in Beijing considering that it's not one of the mainstream restaurants.

I had the tenderloin with gorgonzola sauce over pumpkin gniochi and it was succulent. For 70 rmb, you get two nice thick pieces of steak that are cooked to perfection (medium rare in my case)
another person in my party ordered the lamp chops over tomato risoto (also 70rmb) and that gets you 5 decent size chops with just the right amount of fat and meat, also grilled to perfection.
Their free black olive tapenade rocks and the salads are more than decent.
I have to remember to try the pizza again next time but that tenderloin is just too good to pass up

The wine list ranks amongst the most varied and better priced one in the city with Grace vineyard starting at 120rmb/bottle which is quite a decent value.

overall, great experience with great food. I'll kick myself if I'm not back again there sometime soon.
