Talking Pints: Halloween Parties, Rock-Paper-Scissors and Skratch University's Most Famous Alumni
It's getting close to Halloween and we've been intrigued by details of some of the various All Hallow's bashes that will be taking place around town. We'll have a comprehensive round up of each of the parties closer to the date, but for now, Haze has told us about its mysteriously titled Chilloween & Zoo Break party on October 27. They're calling it a Chinese version of Halloween - get it?
They'd like a Chinese bent to all ghoulish costumes that night though. Their suggestions are Frankenstein in kung fu garb, the ghost of Mao or a dragon vampire. I've already chosen my costume:
Yen will be having an altogether more racy Halloween party. You'll have to use your imagination to guess what costumes they suggest for the latest in their series of fetish parties.
Chill Cafe Bar has opened up in Andingmen. Check out our review here. They've also revealed their opening promotions. Every day from 3-6pm, a Belgian waffle and a soft drink will set you back just RMB 32. They'll also have a daily happy hour between 4-8pm where they'll slash RMB 10 off any beer in the house. And most excitingly, from 8pm-close of a Friday night you can challenge the bar staff to a game of Rock-Paper-Scissors. Beat the barman (or woman) and they'll get the round in (full list of house rules and regulations available on request at the bar).
Tonight at Lantern is The Drop #18, a session of sonic sorcery from Syndicate's Donkey Tonk, Street Kids' Yauman, and The Drop’s own head honcho, Oshi. They're joined tonight by star DJ/producer Liman. If electro dubstep is your thing, you've got somewhere to be tonight.
Tomorrow, Slow Boat Brewery and Homeplate Bar-B-Que host the second annual End of Summer Party. From 2-10pm they'll have six different Slow Boat brews on tap including their new Flying Whale IPA tipple.
One show that snuck up on us was that of legendary skratcher DJ Qbert at Tango this Saturday. Qbert is a hip-hop turntablist of some fine repute from San Francisco, and is a former DMC world title holder. He's also top dog at the Qbert Skratch University. You can get in to see him for RMB 150 on the door tomorrow.
Wherever you get to this weekend, have a wonderful time.
