Don't Miss STEMx Science Day at WAB on April 19

My name is Hannah Tang, a current G11 at Western Academy of Beijing (WAB), a dancer but also someone deeply interested in astrophysics and science in general. I’ve been leading the STEMx Club (Science Club) at WAB since last year, and we are excited to invite you to our Science Day on Apr 19!

Since entering the IB DP program, I’ve noticed a shift in how students perceive learning. For many, success has become synonymous with achieving a 7 (full mark). This is especially true in STEM subjects, where learning often follows a rigid cycle: listen to the teacher, complete piles of question problems at home, and repeat—all in service of the next test. In such a system, it’s easy to lose sight of what makes these subjects exciting: curiosity, creativity, and the power to use it to solve real-world problems.

That’s why, since last year, I’ve taken on a leadership role in WAB’s STEMx Club with my co-leaders. While the club has long engaged Grade 4 students with fun experiments, this year, we set a bolder vision: to inspire high schoolers across Beijing to see STEM not as a subject to memorize, but as a tool for exploration and innovation.
