Upgrade Your Brekkie with These New BJ Breakfast Sandwiches

Like your eggs between two pieces of bread each morning? How about with some cheese on that? Or maybe throw in some bacon and sausages too? We get you – we’re fans of the breakfast sandwich ourselves because grabbing a set of nice buns in the morning trumps a fork and knife any day of the week.

Breakfast sandwich options go beyond just Micky D’s in Beijing. Shake Shack just dropped a few breakfast sandwich and coffee combo options, with DeliNYC following suit last week, making the interesting decision to add a pastrami and mustard sandwich to their lineup for breakfast.

Shake Shack

With a much lower price point than a regular Shack burger, the chain’s breakfast sandwiches aren’t a bad option if you’re looking for something that’s a step up from an Egg McMuffin but not too pricey.

Along with the classic sausage option of their own (RMB 35, RMB 40 with coffee), there’s also plain egg and cheese (RMB 30, RMB 35 with coffee) bacon (RMB 35, RMB 40 with coffee) and arugula (RMB 30, RMB 35 with coffee) available. The eggs and toppings come sandwiched between Shake Shack’s signature potato buns, and, what’s more, the eggs are a bit runny when bitten into, which is a nice touch. We preferred the sausage option best. While the bacon is nice and crispy, and you get more than two pieces, it’s a bit too thin cut for our taste.

If we have one major qualm, it’s with the coffee, which has an odd burger meat flavor to it. We didn’t know if this was an accident (maybe some burger juices got into the beans?), or on purpose, but either way it definitely threw off our breakfast.

Deli NYC

Right after Shake Shack debuted their breakfast options, Deli NYC was hot on their heels with their own sandwich and coffee combos.

The key difference is in the size of the sandwiches, which come atop a small roll that’s pressed and toasted a bit. The plain Egg & Cheese (RMB 28, RMB 36 with coffee) also stands out, being more of an egg salad sandwich with cheese, which isn’t a bad thing.

Deli NYC also decided to bring out the pastrami for breakfast in their Pastrami Sandwich (RMB 38, RMB 42 with coffee), not by combining it with eggs but just with cheese and mustard. It’s an interesting move, but it feels more like a brunch or lunch option than breakfast (would you eat a pastrami sandwich for breakfast? Let us know in the comments!). That being said, their pastrami is delicious, and we don’t mind changing up our breakfast routine a bit to indulge in it.

One thing we especially liked about Deli NYC’s offering was their coffee: it’s simple, robust; a good Americano to kick off the day.
