Detroit Style Pizza Now Available at Home Plate BBQ

Think BBQ pizza just means swapping pepperoni and marinara for chicken and barbecue sauce? Home Plate BBQ’s new range of pizzas invite you to reconsider.

The decision to add pizza to the menu was born out of experimentation, explains Home Plate manager Marlon Ma. “When we were in Chengdu during lockdown, we were experimenting with everything. We ordered pizza and thought to ourselves, why not put Home Plate’s meats on a pizza?”

This led to further experimentation, with Marlon and Home Plate owner Charlie settling on Detroit style pizza – which is characterized by a thicker base, rectangular shape, and burnt crust – as it worked best with what they were going for.

Debuting last week, there are four pizza options to choose from.

The Pitmaster (RMB 128) features smoked USDA beef brisket, hand-pulled pork, jalapeno cheddar sausage, and maple-cured smoked bacon combined with mozzarella, cheddar, and red sauce with a Texas Heat BBQ sauce drizzle; The Porker (RMB 98) features the same mozzarella, cheddar, and red sauce base with pulled pork, bacon, green onion and Kansas City BBQ sauce drizzle.

Then there’s The Mistress (RMB 108), with brisket, jalapenos, sliced red chili and Texas Heat BBQ sauce, and finally Tropic Thunder (RMB 98) consists of jalapeno cheddar sausage, bacon, jalapeno, and red onion with mango habanero sauce.

You can try these pies in house or order them for delivery via JSS, Sherpa’s, Meituan or Eleme.
