Paddy's Day at Paddy's Postponed, but You Can Still Go Green at These Pubs
You may have heard of Christmas in July, but what about St. Patrick’s day in June?
Well, despite their best efforts to abide by constantly shifting rules, Beijing’s best-loved Irish bar, Paddy O’Shea’s, has decided to close its doors on what is normally its biggest and most rambunctious night of the year.
“The last two months have been an extremely difficult time for our staff to manage, both physically and mentally,” wrote Paddy’s management on the bar’s official WeChat account, adding, “In order to protect everyone’s integrity, we had to take this heartbreaking decision.”
Fortunately, this does not mean that the pub is going away entirely, as they are set to reopen tomorrow, Wednesday, Mar 18. Furthermore, there is still a pot of gold at the other end of this rainbow: the pub has rescheduled the celebration for Jun 17.
In the meantime, you don’t have to down your Jameson and Guinness at home if you don’t want to. Put on your green and get ready to make a scene at these celebrations of Ireland’s patron paint:
Wrap up a lucky week at Boxing Cat
Boxing Cat really called upon the luck of the Irish this year, banking that the city's non-quarantined would drop for an entire week's worth of St. Patrick's Day deals. Since Friday, Boxing Cat has been offering all-day happy hour specials on their Green Smash Burger and lager as well as their draft stouts, and today is the last day to take advantage. Anyone wearing green will also be privy to samplers of their Green Smash Lager to get you in the holiday spirit.
Drink till you see leprechauns at Jing-A
"This St. Patrick’s Day you won’t find any green beer at 京A, save for the label on our Flying Fist IPA," so goes the press release from Jing-A. However, what they lack in food coloring, they're more than making up for with RMB 30 pints of Black Velvet Stout and Flying Fist IPA throughout tonight. And if you forgot to sport your green cap on the only day that it’s acceptable to 戴绿帽子, there'll be some green merch to purchase at the bar as well.
Take a Great Leap into a three-leaf of stouts
Today, Great Leap is offering three stouts – Barbarous King Imperial, Liu the Brave, and Renounced Monk Imperial – on tap, and you can get three glasses of the rich and creamy stuff for just RMB 100 at any of their locations (excluding Great Leap #6, which is currently closed).
Bring your spiffy canine for a pint (or nine)
Whether you’re going out or staying in, your pupper can join in this year's St. Patrick's celebrations too with green bow ties and bandanas courtesy of Bru Bows. Get yours now before they're put away on Mar 18.
