5 Things to Taste, Smell, Touch, Hear, and See, Mar 1-3
Beijing can be an overstimulating place to live, to say the least. Let’s be real: sometimes even our sixth sense (the one that tells you when that stick of chuan'r will make you sick for the next two days) gets a decent workout. With such a wide variety of events, restaurants, and gigs to attend, we suggest bathing each of your five senses in one, if not all, of the nourishing goings-on below.
Taste
Every weekend: Farm to Neighbors market
Truth be told, F2N market has been around since I first tried searching for "organic food" in Beijing. But like every good thing, it deserves a decent pat on the shoulder once in a while. If you still haven't made it part of your Sunday routine, do check them out! Fresh local (and exotic) vegetables and fruits, Beijing-made cheese, bread, cookies, and numerous other delicious goodies are on offer. While you're at it, bring your own canvas bag. Every Saturday and Sunday, midday-6pm. B1, Grand Summit
Smell
Mar 2: The Brickyard Birthday
Great Wall adjacent The Brickyard boutique hotel is celebrating its ninth birthday by whipping up a feast for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Beijing. The hotel is serving a set menu dinner, and also has discount rates for its superior queen rooms if you'd like to stay the night. RMB 238 (RMB 99 for kids). The Brickyard
Touch
Mar 2: Jindafit for Charity
Dust off your leggings and get ready to move and groove for charity! Start your Saturday morning with Jindafit, a mix of Afro-Latin dances with coach Yasmin. All proceeds go to Roundabout. 8-9am. By donation. Beijing Riviera
Hear
Mar 1: My Paris Story Book Talk
This book talk comes with a practical goal: author Federico Castigliano aims to teach Beijingers the art of wandering in a city. His anecdotes about roaming the streets of Paris are sure to be inspiring and informative. 7.30pm. RMB 60 (one drink included). The Bookworm
See
Mar 2-10: Nordic Film Festival at the Danish Cultural Center
This festival will showcase 20 films from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland. Including shorts and features, the selection is focused on different aspects of women in society and sisterhood. Besides the screenings, the festival organizers have invited Scandinavian filmmakers for talks and discussions. Free (registration via QR code required). Danish Cultural Center and UCCA
Get your tastebuds ready... the Beijinger 2019 Hot & Spicy Festival is coming, April 20-21.
