Domain Revamps Menu With More Comfort Food, Including a Lasagna to Die For
East's latest addition, chef Tim Hunt who came back to Beijing and took over from Rob Cunningham this summer, has been busy throughout the hotel's numerous F&B outlets. His latest changes can be oggled on Domain's menu, the home of East's more casual dining options, which now includes comfort food.
The cheesy lasagna (pictured above, RMB 68) is alone worth traveling to the northeast of the city for. It comes served on a piping hot plate with glazed creamy parmesan sauce, to which you couldn't possibly add more cheese if you tried, unless you wanted it to ooze off the sides of the plate like a cheesy volcano (yes please). We whole heartedly approve, as the rich, meaty sauce inbetween each individual sheet of lasagna mixes with the cheese.
Other options bound to warm you up this winter include the pork tonkatsu burger (RMB 88), which we would actually choose over a regular beef burger. We first came across this delicious pork cutlet burger at the 2nd Annual Beijing Autumn Craft Beer Festival back in 2015, and it stuck with us thanks to its Japanese-inspired tonkatsu with fresh shredded lettuce, pickled ginger, tomato, mayonnaise, and the traditional sweet and savory sauce. It also made an appearance at this year's Burger Cup Launch Party, reminding us of how much we can't resist the crunch of deep-fried chicken on a soft, buttered bun, and we're glad this creation has finally found a somewhat more permanent home on the Domain menu.
It's not all glutinous, however, and there are also some healthier options on offer, like the baby spinach salad (RMB 68, pictured above), a plentiful mix of fresh whole spinach leaves, crumbled creamy goats cheese, toasted pinenuts, grilled asparagus and pumpkin, and a balsamic emulsion. Additions as such (and the couple of other soups and salads on offer) prove that while Domain does great comfort food best, there is also the option to go the healthy route this winter should you wish to do so.
