Capital Caff: Sampling a Trio of Espressos at Lavazza

Don't talk to me until I've read Capital Caff – your guide to the latest in coffee happenings around Beijing.

It’s the midst of Italian Cuisine Week in Beijing, and we here at the Beijinger have a particular affinity for one Italian caffeinated import: espresso. Lavazza, one of the newer participants in this year’s week, has delivered with a special grouping of espressos to try.

Known simply as the Espresso Trio (RMB 30, lead image), it has three variations of the strong coffee drink. Think a classic, bare-bones shot, a macchiato – espresso with a dollop of milk foam – and an espresso con panna, aka espresso with whipped cream.

Each one goes down a treat, with the espresso con panna being a particular favorite – what’s not to love about anything topped with whipped cream?

While it’s only cropped up as part of Lavazza’s Italian Cuisine Week promotions, it seems this is a regular menu item, so if you can’t make it out this week to try, drop by after and ask the staff.
