3.6-Magnitude Earthquake Hits North of Beijing: A 3.6-magnitude earthquake struck the city of Zhangjiakou north of Beijing last night, Nov 7, according to Beijing Evening News. Some Beijing residents reported feeling the quake from over 170km away. Beijing and the surrounding region are no stranger to earthquakes, with Earthquakeslist.com writing the city having seen 17 quakes of magnitude 4 or higher range over the past ten years.
Central Heating Enters Testing Runs: Beijing’s central heating system has been turned on for testing as of Nov 7, according to Beijing Daily. Testing operations ensures heating is distributed evenly across the city, and residents are encouraged to contact district officials in case they notice any issues like lack of heat or high heat. Two Subway Stations Temporarily Closed: Subway exits along Line 1 and Line 2/8 have been temporarily closed as of 3pm on Nov 8. The exits in question are Qianmen Station’s Exit A and Tian’anmen West’s Exit B. No explanation was given for the closures as of press time.
