Two More American Jazz Legends Headed to Beijing

If you happened to miss American jazz trumpeter Wynton Marsalis’ two-day stop in Beijing this week, there are still some chances to catch some legends from the world of jazz in the capital, with Kenny Garrett and Herbie Hancock headed here soon.

Kenny Garrett Plays Blue Note

Considered to be one of the most influential jazz saxophone players, Kenny Garrett has had quite the career, having played with the greats like Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, and Art Blakey. Garrett has won acclaim for versatility in jazz, blues, and R&B, and has been nominated multiple times for the Grammy Awards, winning the award for Best Instrumental Album, Individual or Group for his work with the Five Peace Band.

Garrett will be playing at both Blue Note Shanghai and Beijing with the Kenny Garrett Quintet, during which he’ll showcase sounds from his most recent releases, particularly Sounds From the Ancestors, which features works heavily inspired by African musical traditions.

Sounds From the Ancestors: the Kenny Garret Quintet is happening on both Wednesday, Oct 23 and Thursday, Oct 24, with doors opening at 6.30pm and music starting at 8pm at Blue Note Beijing. Tickets are RMB 380-6800 for groups of two to ten people (individual tickets are not available) and can be purchased via this link.
