Lineup of Beers Unveiled for Jing-A’s 8x8 Brewing Project

The arrival of fall in Beijing brings with it three certainties: cooler weather, falling leaves, and Jing-A’s annual 8x8 Brewing Project, which is coming up on us from Oct 18-19 at the C7 Light Theatre just north of the 798 Art District.

As always, Jing-A has paired eight Chinese breweries with eight breweries from a particular global region – this time it's breweries from Britain – hence the 8x8 name. The paired breweries collaborate, utilizing their strengths and expertise in particular malts, flavors, and the like to craft eight specialty beers that are only available during the 8x8 Brewing Project.

Jing-A has recently unveiled these special beers in the leadup to the October holiday, and we’d have to admit it’s quite the impressive list. Along with a few twists on classics like hopped pilsners and English Special Bitters (ESB), there’s a lot of experimentation going on.

Highlights include a Sticky Chinese Date Pudding Barleywine by Jing-A and Siren Craft Brew; a Fruited Pastry Sour by Yardley Brothers of Hong Kong and Track; and an Earl Grey and Keemen Black Tea West Coast Pilsen by MMB and Northern Monk, among others (check out the full list here).

The event is split into four sessions in total, one on Friday and three on Saturday. During these sessions, each brewery will not only showcase their collab brew, but four of their own beers which will switch each session. This means participants will not only be able to taste over 40 different beers per session, but 136 unique beers in total throughout the entirety of the event.

Early bird tickets are sold out, but regular tickets are still available per session, at RMB 248 for a single session ticket; RMB 328 for a session combo ticket; or RMB 888 for an all sessions VIP pass, which comes with a few extra perks.

Can’t make the event or want to get started a bit early? Jing-A has already unveiled their take on an ESB ahead of the event. The Bitter Better (RMB 35, pictured above) is a copper colored, malt-forward British ale with notes of toffee and biscuit with a light sweetness.

The 2024 Jing-A 8x8 Beer Project is taking place from Fri, Oct 18 to Sat, Oct 19 at various times on each day at the C7 Light Theatre at Universal Creative Park (UCP). Ticket prices are RMB 248 for a single session ticket; RMB 328 for a session combo ticket; or RMB 888 for an all sessions VIP pass and can be purchased via the QR code in the poster above.
