New restaurants, dining deals, drinks discounts, guest shifts, pop-ups, and more happenings on our to try list this week.
Slowboat Opens New Shichahai Digs
A new year brings with it a new Slowboat branch, and their latest digs is located in the beautiful Shichahai area. Now officially open for business it features two floors with stunning views of Qianhai Lake, even including private booths for groups of up to 12 each with its own window. In keeping with the historic area, the tables and benches are crafted from 100-year-old recycled elm from traditional hutong courtyards.
As always you can indulge in their menu of sumptuous food from classic burgers like The Fryburger (RMB 69) to newer offerings like the Golden Gongmen (RMB 80) which is kind of like their take on a Big Mac with two smashed AU-beef patties, special sauce, pickled onions, shredded lettuce, American cheddar and homemade spicy pickles all packed in their signature pretzel bun. Along with burgers, they've got their selection of shareables such as the much coveted Seasoned Fries (RMB 36/small, RMB 46/large) or Reuben Roll (RMB 35).
It of course wouldn’t be Slowboat without their signature beers and here they’ve got a whopping 45 taps on offer. This is also their first taproom designed for tap takeovers from both local and international breweries, with the first tap takeover kicking off on Mar 1. Part of a “High Five” series it’s a recent collaboration with Evil Twin Brewing, a New York City based brewery. There will be five Evil Twin beers available for a limited time along with a yet to be announced special collaboration brew from the two.

One of Shanghai’s favorite Italian eateries is finally setting up its first branch in Beijing! Starting up in Shanghai back in 2017 Alimentari, literally meaning “sundries” in Italian, is part of the Popolo Italian restaurant group which was set up by a dedicated group of Italians who wanted to bring authentic Italian cuisine to China. Fast forward to 2024 they now have numerous locations in Shanghai along with others in Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Chengdu and once Mar 7 hits, Beijing as well.
Alimentari’s Beijing branch will be located in Sanlitun and is one of their Alimentari Grande restaurants which combine everything from deli to restaurant to bar to café and more. No matter what time of day it is they’ve got something for you whether your after breakfast, brunch, lunch, an afternoon snack, aperitif, dinner, late night snacking or drinking.
At the moment they’ve also got a special offer where if you scan the QR code in the poster above you can send a free drink to a friend to enjoy in their Beijing branch.
