Try Over 200 Dishes and Drinks at the Belt and Road Food Fest
Next weekend (Sep 16-17) the Belt and Road Food Fest will kick off and to get you excited in anticipation let’s take a look at all of the amazing and exotic vendors they’ve got in store.
Brutal Fruit
Enjoy the delicate flavors of Brutal Fruit Spritzer! Brutal Fruit was founded over 20 years ago, and in recent years has become the leading brand of low-alcohol RTDs in South Africa. Their spritzers are brewed with natural juice and strictly selected yeast imported from Belgium to give them a fragrant aroma. Their spritzers undergo seven craft brew processes and ten days of golden fermentation cycle to create multi-layered flavors!
Brutal Fruit has launched two original products: Ruby Apple Spritzer and Strawberry Rouge Spritzer. They have rich, fruity and floral flavors, with a crystal-clear color and champagne-like bubbles! The rich taste tantalizes the taste buds and it's the ideal accompaniment for enjoying a relaxing time.
Hi-Town Bistro海塘无国界餐吧
Hi-Town Bistro is all about “no boundaries,” which is clearly reflected in their eclectic menu of dishes from a whole range of different countries. To the fest they’ll bring Tunisian Lamb Sausages, Azerbaijan Style Barbecue – beef, lamb or chicken – grilled with onions, chili peppers, bell peppers and tomatoes all seasoned with a special mix of Azerbaijan spices. Plus they’ll also be bringing their signature dish: Smoked Lamb Kidney, a traditional Chinese barbecue dish in which they smoke the lamb with rosemary and other seasonings to give it a hint of woody, smokey aroma.
Brotzeit Bier Bar & Restaurant博璨啤酒餐厅
With a menu featuring Austrian cuisine, Brotzeit will have a traditional Austrian dish at the festival: Angus Beef Pretzel Sandwich. In this dish 150-day grain-fed Angus beef is sandwiched into one of their freshly baked pretzel buns and topped with veggies. They’ve also created a special Brotzeit Sausage Mix, which consists of sausages from a variety of Belt and Road countries. All of the meat and spices used in the sausages have been carefully selected by Brotzeit’s chef.
Istanbul Bites伊斯坦布尔百特
Istanbul Bites will be showcasing the famous Turkish dish Döner Kebap – available as either chicken, beef, or vegetables topped with fresh salad and your choice of sauce sandwiched inside crispy bread. They’ll also have a variety of other Turkish delicacies and a selection of drinks on hand as well.
AFRICAN TRIBE非洲部族
African Tribe will be showcasing a famous West African dish at the Belt and Road Food Fest: Jollof Rice and Chicken. Spiced chicken is served on a bed of rice mixed with tomatoes, chili peppers, onions, garlic, ginger, bay leaves and assorted vegetables. Another classic West African dish they’ll have is Fried Plantains. Beautifully golden and crispy, they’ll just melt in your mouth.
LA PLATEA 兰蒂地中海餐吧
Mediterranean restaurant La Platea will have a variety of Piadina (Italian flatbread) at the fest. There will be Mortadella Piadina with mortadella, mushrooms, mozzarella and truffle; Coppa Piadina filled with coppa, red onion and mozzarella; and finally Spicy Salami Piadina featuring spicy salami and mozzarella. Plus, they’ll have a few Mediterranean-themed snacks: Ham and Cheese Croquettes, Mediterranean Fried Chicken, and Parmesan Fries. In addition to food they’ll have a great selection of craft beers from all over the world as well as Aperol Spritz, the most Italian and refreshing cocktail.
Medi Bistro & Bar Medi地中海餐吧
With a menu focused on the local flavors of the Mediterranean, Medi will be offering Moroccan Spicy Meatballs on Couscous at the fest. The dish features hand-rolled beef meatballs seasoned with the chef’s secret Moroccan spices accompanied by spicy condiments and couscous. For vegetarians, they have Crackling Deep-Fried Fresh Mushrooms with French Fries. The mushrooms keep tender and juicy inside the crispy batter and the fries are seasoned with Argentinian spices.
CARPACCIO卡巴乔
CARPACCIO is dedicated to exploring the rich and delicious world of Italian cuisine in China with a special focus on traditional dishes like pizza, gelato, coffee, and more. At the festival, they’ll be serving up their signature Italian gelato along with an array of other street food, including a special dish created just for the fest!
IN&OUT Yunnan Food一坐一忘云南菜
Stylish Yunnan eatery IN&OUT have been in business for over 18 years, bringing the fresh flavors of Yunnan to cities across China, and now to the Belt & Road Food Fest! At the fest, they’ll be serving Roasted Chicken with Papaya, Fried Potato with Yunnan Mushrooms, Fried Yunnan Tofu with Yunnan Mushrooms, and to wash it all down, Sweet Sour Papaya Juice.
Rak Thai•Thai Home Cuisine爱泰风•泰式家常菜
Rak Thai focuses on creating authentic Thai home-cooked dishes by using secret family recipes and high-quality ingredients imported from Thailand. For those of you with a sweet tooth they’ll be offering two Thai desserts at the fest: Luk Chup, a traditional Thai dessert made from mung beans mixed with coconut milk, sugar and food coloring, and Mango Sticky Rice, one of the most popular desserts in Thailand. Mango is layered on top of glutinous rice and coconut milk to create this delicacy.
If you’re looking for something more savory they’ll have Thai Grilled Pork Neck (Kor Moo Yang) – a classic Thai street food where the pork is charred on the outside but tender on the inside – and the always popular Thai Papaya Salad (Som Tum) and Thai Shrimp Crackers. s. They’ll also have a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, including Thai Milk Tea, Thai Lemon Iced Tea, Singha Beer and Chang Beer.
All of Rak Thai’s dishes have been carefully designed by Chef Ann, a Thai native, Chef Ann has over 25 years of experience in Thai cooking. She is well known for her authentic Thai cooking methods and use of traditional Thai flavors. Throughout her career, Chef Ann has worked for many Thai Royal Embassies around the world and her talent in cooking Thai food is well recognized by leaders and international distinguished guests.
The Cuban Connection by Slider Nation
Just for the Belt and Road Food Fest, Slider Nation will become The Cuban Connection, offering up Cubano Sandwiches – 48-hour sous vide Cuban-style pork shoulder, ham, ballpark mustard and white cheddar are pressed panini style until they’re at crisp perfection. Other treats up for grabs are Cuban Style Beef Sliders, Chicken Nuggets with a special “Mojo” sauce, Papas Fritas and Cuba Libre Slushies.
Nord Grill & Bar诺德
For those who are a fan of spice (or Nando’s) Nord’s Belt and Road Food Fest offering of Piri Piri Chicken is sure to get you excited! Often referred to as Portugal’s national dish, it features a grilled chicken that’s been marinated in a spicy piri piri chili sauce. Alongside this, Nord will also have a variety of fried snacks and German beer.
Q MEX Bar & Grill库迈墨西哥餐吧
For the Belt & Road Food Fest, Q MEX will be serving up one of their signature tacos: Crispy Shrimp Tacos. It features shrimp stuffed inside a hard-shell tortilla and topped with chipotle mayo, Pico de Gallo and jalapenos. They'll also have Chipotle Chicken Skewers, which sees marinated chicken thighs skewered and char-grilled, topped with sour cream and chimichurri sauce and served with chipotle mayo.
YIN’S LOUNGE胤橡派
YIN'S LOUNGE mainly focuses on French cuisine, with some coastal Mediterranean flavors blended in, but for the fest they’re going full Greek with a delicious selection of classic Greek dishes. First up is Keftethes, handmade beef meatballs served with a secret Greek yogurt-based sauce. Next is Fried Cheese Balls, which sees parmesan and Maserati cheese is combined with white mushrooms and then fried until a beautiful golden color. Last is Greek Style Spring Rolls, where Greece meets China in true Belt and Road fashion: a Greek cream salad made from spinach, tomato, scallions, etc. is wrapped in a Chinese spring roll wrapper and fried until crispy.
YIN’S LOUNGE will also have some specially concocted drinks for the festival: a dirty iced coffee called the Autumn Fujiyama Dirty, a twist on a classic cocktail Let Drunkards Get Rich First, and two fruit-based drinks – Don’t Fret (kiwi), and Let Today’s Work Stop Here (passion fruit).
SUSU苏苏越南菜
Born deep in Beijing's hutongs, SUSU serves authentic and unique Vietnamese dishes in a simple and creative way. From spring rolls and salads to fusion tacos and pho, to banh mi and beyond, they’ve got a menu jam-packed with flavor. At the fest they’ll have their Shrimp and Pork Rolls, a refreshing little dish consisting of shrimp, pork, rice vermicelli and native Vietnamese herbs all rolled up in rice paper with their homemade peanut dip on the side. Along with the rolls they’ll have Shaking Beef Skewers made from beef tenderloin accompanied by eggplant, okra and homemade sauce.
PAK PAK TANG (Grand Summit) PAK PAK喜悦泰餐(官舍店)
Thai restaurant PAK PAK will have a range of Thai delicacies at the fest, including handmade Fresh Fried Shrimp Cakes, Thai Grilled Sausage and Lemongrass Grilled Chicken – chicken wings marinated with lemongrass and other secret Thai spices then roasted. For dessert or as a little sweet treat they’ll have Mango Sticky Rice that’s made from fresh mango, purple sticky rice and coconut milk.
Las Musas Taqueria Las Musas 墨西哥餐吧
Known for their innovative taco fillings and twists on classic cocktails, Las Musas has crafted three special tacos for the Belt & Road Fest: Green Chili Beef Machaca Tacos, Spicy Habanero Chicken Tacos and Hibiscus Tacos (vegan). Along with tacos they’ll also have their famous Queso Fundido, a cheese dip mixed with smoked mild peppers topped with pico de gallo and served with fresh corn chips.
CHEERS Wines齐饮进口葡萄酒
Fresh on the heels of the CHEERS Summer Fest the weekend before, CHEERS Wines will be joining the Belt and Road Food Fest with plenty of their great quality wines and carefully crafted cocktails. On the wine front, there will be Nos Racines Merlot, Nos Racines Sauvignon Blanc and Bonaval Cava Brut. In the cocktail department, they’ll have a refreshing Gin and Tonic, a fruity tequila-based Paloma, a tongue-tingling Spicy Sparkling Margarita and that classic bubbly Italian concoction, the Aperol Spritz.
YE BREWING野鹅微醺
Hailing from Shijiazhuang, Hebei, YE BREWING has created a fusion Donkey Meat Burrito that takes specialty donkey meat from Hebei and wraps it up in a tortilla along with lettuce, onion, tomato, coriander and avocado. As you’d expect, YE BREWING will have some of their craft beers on tap along with a special Mandarin Matheran Fruit Cider. High-quality Matheran grapes from Huailai, Hebei, are paired with apple juice and mandarin and jasmine tea to create a cider with an eye-catching purple-red color and intense grape flavor that’s both sour and sweet and perfect for sipping on a warm day.
Tofu OCN一来东豆腐店
As you might have guessed from the name, Tofu OCN is all about the Tofu! They’ll be presenting their Organic Wrapped Tofu from Yunnan, a delicious snack made from organic soybeans and using traditional methods. As well as tofu they’ll have a selection of Organic Dim Sum and Mooncakes, all of which are made by hand.
Gloria×Gao Gloria×高
A limited-edition collaboration just for the Belt and Road Food Fest, Gloria X Gao are combining the flavors of Chinese soy sauce with Thai and Southeast Asian flavors. The first of their special dishes is Rendang Beef, which uses various traditional spices such as ginger, turmeric, citronella paired with coconut milk, and for the twist, Chinese soy sauce. They will also have Tom Yum Soup and Handmade Shrimp Pancakes.
PANDABREW•RIVER MELODY MOUNTAIN SCENERY熊猫精酿•湘声岳色
Representing Hunan, Pandabrew has a few Hunan classics on their menu for the fest. They’ve got Hunan Rice Noodles, which is a noodle soup dish that’s the perfect balance of sour and spicy and Beef Skewers.
Pandabrew will, of course, also have some of their best brews at the festival, like All Day Pilsner, Xiaomei Strawberry Seasalt Gose, Outlaw Dried Tangerine Peel Witbier and many, many more.
TongXinJu同心居饭庄
Keeping things closer to home, TongXinJu will have a menu focusing on classic Beijing dishes at the festival. They'll have Dongba Donkey Meat Sandwiches, Peking Duck Rolls, Lamb Chuanr and Traditional Beijing Yogurt. As well as food they'll have some homemade fruit-based drinks,including Kumquat and Passion Fruit Juice and Osmanthus Flavor Plum Juice.
TACO GO塔可够
TACO GO will have their famous Birria Beef and Birria Chicken Tacos at the fest. Beef or chicken is marinated in a paste made from over a dozen spices and five different kinds of Mexican chili pepper and then slow-cooked for four hours. The meat is then stuffed inside a tortilla soaked in birria broth and then cooked on a griddle on both sides until it’s perfectly crispy.
Latina Brazilian Steakhouse Latina 巴西牛排馆
Latina has been providing the Brazilian Rodizio-style barbecue experience in China for over 20 years. At the Belt & Road Food Fest they’ll be cooking up one of Brazil’s most distinctive cuts of meat: picanha, a cut of beef taken from the top of the rump. Seasoned simply with sea salt and the flames of their open fire, the layer of fat on the outside seeps into the rest of the meat to make it juicy and tender. They’ll also have strings of roasted pineapples covered in a layer of cinnamon and sugar powder available, which are the perfect dessert after enjoying the picanha, or if you want dessert in liquid form, one of their lemon cocktails is sure to go down a treat.
MORROW Grill & Cantina墨佬墨西哥餐厅
Mexican restaurant MORROW will be serving their Secret Monterey Beef Sauce Tacos, which see a corn tortilla base layered with beef, various sauces and fresh vegetables, all then smothered in their secret beef sauce, which has been simmered for four hours. They’ll also have Chicken and Cheese Quesadillas that come with a side of their handmade salsa that’s perfect for dipping.
B-13
B-13 is embracing all things barbecue with their array of different barbecue dishes from different countries. They’ll have Steppe Barbecue from Mongolia, Mexican Barbecue and Yakitori (aka Japanese barbecued chicken skewers) and if you’re feeling adventurous they’ll also have Thai-style insects as well.
Along with food they’ll have a number of drinks: Mojitos, Thai Lemon Tea, and for Harry Potter fans their own version of Butterbeer.
TUKTUK Thai Herbal Beverage TUKTUK泰式植物鲜萃饮
Specializing in lemongrass-based drinks, TUKTUK will have a range of refreshing Thai beverages that are ideal for cooling down. They’ll have Sparkling Water with Lemon Grass and Lemon, Thai Iced Lemon Tea with Basil, Fresh Boiled Lemon Grass Juice, Lemon Grass and Lemon Americano and Handmade Lemon Grass and Lemon. For their drinks, they use an innovative technique of utilizing Thai plants like lemongrass, pandan leaf, etc. to brew a soup-like base, which is then used in the drinks.
Hidden Beauty
Craft beer spot Hidden Beauty has used Mandheling Coffee from Indonesia to create Mandheling Coffee HOP Pilsner. The coffee gives the beer a rich caramel aroma and a nutty, chocolaty flavor. They’ll also have their classic Jasmine Tea Kölsch, which sees fragrant jasmine tea added to a classic German kölsch, resulting in a floral, fruity aroma that’s smooth and sweet.
Madeira Home马德拉之家
Madeira Home will be bringing their delicious Madeira wines to the Belt & Road Fest. You can enjoy the wines either as a standalone drink or in one of their creative Madeira cocktails. Originating from its namesake, Madeira, a Portuguese island, Madeira is a fortified wine with an alcohol content of around 19 percent/vol. Classic vintages are three, five or ten years, and it has the longest aging potential in the world, which also gives it the name “immortal wine.” As well as Madeira they'll also have a selection of cheese from Le Fromager De Pékin.
APPENZELLER BIER & THE ROOTS阿彭策尔精酿啤酒&THE ROOTS
Combining forces once again, Appenzeller Bier and The Roots founder XiaoAn are bringing more delights rooted in the French/Swiss mountains. They'll be serving Grilled Handmade Sausages and other treats from the region, which have been crafted as the perfect size for sharing with friends. Along with food they’ll also have some of Appenzeller Bier’s signature brews, like Appenzell Vintage Sauerbier, Appenzell Ginger Beer and Appenzell India Pale Ale.
C Creativity Ice Cream C元文创冰淇淋
Specializing in Belgian handmade ice cream, C Creativity Ice Cream uses fresh milk from a farm in the Beerse area of Belgium to make their ice creams. They’ve got tonnes of different flavour from Vanilla or Chocolate to Pistachio or Mango and have crafted their products to ensure they aren’t too sweet and instead have a light, natural taste.
Black Ink Fried Chicken醉乙黑粉炸鸡
Black Ink Fried Chicken will be bringing – you guessed it – Black Ink Fried Chicken to the festival. Originating in South Korea, the dish sees fresh chicken thighs marinated in a mixture of squid ink, flour and a secret blend of seasonings which are then deep fried until crispy on the outside but still tender in the middle It’s then served with a dragon fruit sauce.
Getting winter started early they’ll also be serving mulled wine, which has been expertly crafted by The Tipsy Swallow bar, exclusively using Cabernet Sauvignon and a traditional spice mix.
iGELATO
iGELATO only uses fresh, natural ingredients with zero additives in their made fresh daily gelato. Their gelato is also low in sugar and low fat, and is made using traditional Italian methods.
The Belt & Road Food Fest is happening at Langyuan Station Sep 16-17, 11am-8.30pm. Early bird tickets are RMB 19.9 for one person or RMB 29.9 for two people, you can purchase tickets by scanning the QR code in the poster above.
