Take a Trip to Vietnam with These Dining Options

Just because you’re stuck at home doesn’t mean you can’t travel -- well, it doesn’t mean your taste buds can’t travel, at least.

Case in point, if you’re wanting to eplore the flavors of Vietnam, it’s readily available here in Beijing. Although you don't get the whole feel of being in Vietnam while eating, with all the sights, noises, people, colors, and everything in between, these places and their treats can bring out the flavors of the Southeast Asian country’s vibrant foods.

Char Siu Banh Mi from YueLi Vietnamese

We wrote about this restaurant last December, but the flavors of their takes on Vietnamese classics like pho and banh mi are still fresh in our minds.

But the real star of the show, in our opinion, is their Char Siu Banh Mi (RMB 32). Picture this: smoked to perfection slices of pork with pate, pickled veggies and sauce sandwiched between a crunchy French baguette-style bread. Sounds good right? Now go get yourself one.

Classic Pho from Saigon Mama

The best pho in Beijing is a contested topic, but we’re willing to place our bet behind this bowl of beefy goodness from Saigon Mama. Their Classic Pho (RMB 58), features thinly sliced beef brisket coupled with raw beef and beef balls all swimming in a succulent broth with veggies and aromatics.

It’s soupy, it’s filling, and it’s good ‘til the last drop.

Nem and Spring Roll Assortment from Le Little Saigon

If you’re like us and find it hard to decide between fried or fresh spring rolls, then this is the assortment for you. At RMB 68, it comes with three each of fried spring rolls filled with chicken, vegetables, pork and beef, plus three vegetarian spring rolls. Add in some dipping sauce and it’s the perfect snack with or without a full meal.

Curry and Rice Lunch Sets from Susu

An often overlooked feature of Vienamese cuisine is it’s curry dishes. If you’re interested in trying Vietnamese-style curried beef, chicken, or tofu, look no further than Susu.

Their lunch sets come not just with curry and rice, but with fresh and pickled vegetables, sweet potato chips and a Coke as well. Other options include their Mini Shaking Beef Set (RMB 48) and pho and banh mi sets (with sides including Viet Q fries with the sandwich and egg rolls with the pho) for RMB 78 each.
