Capital Caff: SOE Brews and Lego Murals at Mini Mily Cafe

Another month and another coffee shop hits the ground running in Beijing -- they technically opened last month, but they’re still worth mentioning, because their coffee is damn good and they’ve got a penchant for legos. The place in question? Mini Mily.
I’ve been working from home for the past week or so, and even though I’ve been making good use of the coffee beans I have -- most of which come from Shanghai-based Jonas Emil, check them out -- I still like to order a brew or two from local shops to try.
I happened upon Mini Mily while perusing Meituan one afternoon. The logo, which kinda looks like a bright orange lego brick, caught my attention.
The next thing that caught my attention were the low prices. Only RMB 9.9 for an Americano? Only RMB 25 for an SOE (ie Single-Origin Estate coffee beans, or beans from a single geographic region) latte? Can’t complain about that. As for what SOE beans they have on offer, they’ve currently got beans from Ethiopia and Papua New Guinea (starting at RMB 28 for pour over). These beans can be added to any coffee for an extra RMB 5.
The shop also stands out for it’s affinity for legos. For starters, they’ve got a massive Spirited Away-inspired mural featuring characters from the movie enjoying coffee. There’s even a little piece depicting a miniature coffee shop (perhaps that’s where the mini in the name comes from?).
Suffice to say, both the latte and their Americano are bomb. Usually plastic cups tend to taint the flavor of coffee from a few new shops I’ve tried, but this isn’t the case here. Each brew is full bodied and decadent, with the flavor of the beans really shining through.
So if you’re in the need for a good brew delivered, Mini Mily is the place to get it from. The shop opens at 9am everyday, but per their Meituan page, they only start delivery from 11am, so keep that in mind if you’re looking for an earlier caffeine fix.
