Beijing News You Might Have Missed this Week, Jul 3
Beijing is a happening city! Don't miss a thing with our weekend roundup of the latest news.
Workers’ Stadium return time set: Last year, Workers Stadium was flattend to make room for a new and improved version of itself, leaving us to wait for its return only knowing that it had a deadline of July 2023 so that is can host the opening ceremony of the AFC Asian Cup. This week, however, we learned that it will be open to the public even earlier, swinging open its doors by December 2022.
Subway accepts digital RMB: Some foreigners with eligible bank accounts may have already set up their digital RMB wallet, but for now only select retailers are accepting the currency. However, you can add the Beijing Subway to that gradually growing list. Despite its historical sluggishness to adopt new payment methods, Beijing’s transit authority is ahead of the game on this one. To use digital RMB on the subway, select 亿通行 (yìtōngxíng) in your digital RMB wallet app.
Asia’s biggest wholesale market: Beijing’s business operators take heed: the largest wholesale market in Asia is about to open in Chaoyang. After five years of construction, the market is expected to open in the next couple of months and will serve as a competitor to Xinfadi, meaning that much of your daily produce and grocery goods will likely pass through this mega market.
Didi launches IPO: Beijing-based rideshare company Didi Chuxing managed to raise USD 4.4 billion with its Wall Street IPO. After an initial bump in the price following the offering, the stock price quickly settled back down just one percent above the IPO. The offering is seen as sign that the company may be looking to expand its services abroad, so you may soon be taking Didi on your international travels as well as here in China.
Best of the blog:
- If you're looking to have a drink to support your team, find out which bars will have 'em all on the big screens.
- Last Week, the Hutong Fayre, was delayed until tomorrow. The Fayre will give support to Hui's Sanctuary, which is in desperate need of your help.
- It's hot! Keep cool at these water parks around town.

This is an off-topic query, but I suppose the best place to post it. Back in the day, when everyone was frantic about the dreaded C-19 , TBJ had a link to a website that had all the current stats in China, which was updated regularly. I had site bookmarked, alas, I've recently had computer meltdown in which the motherboard was fried. (Had something to do with spilt wine) Point is, I was able to salvage the hard drive and put in a new older computer (parse that if you will) Nonetheless, all of my (hundred or so) bookmarks are gone. Point is, again, is could someone kindly give me the link again. I know it was something like 丁香医生冠状病毒。。什么什么什么 . I checked out the Doctor Lilac website but could not find what I was lookin for. Surely someone at tthe beijingr has the link. It used to be pasted prominently on the front page. I checked a bit through the `coronavirus' tab at the top of page. No luck. So just gimme the link , someone or other.
Here is the link if anyone is interested: h t t p s : / / n c o v . d x y . c n / n c o v h 5 / v i e w / p n e u m o n i a
(remove all spaces.... When I paste the link into the automatic submission filter that TBJ uses it changes it, and the link won't work, hence written as above. Had to use the wayback machine to find an old copy of TBJ to find it. )

Yeah, well us Newfs ain't so dumb as some folk usta think we is.I've never been quite far north enough to get the full midnight sun, however in Fort Nelson BC around summer solstice it doesn't quite get dark . Around 12 midnight the light fades but doesn't disappear. By 3 am the dawn is a breaking. My brother, whom worked inTuktoyuktuk told me of watching gangs of kids kicking football ( i mean `soccer ball') around at 2 in the morning. So I imagine it's no wonder them Eskimos is so woke. One could so do, I suppose tho, that it may provide relatively less comfort than a comtemporary shardless abode. Of course in the past fundamental things, like staying the fonk alive may have held precedence over things like leisure and pleasure. In which case I suppose a shard built house, as, Eskimos may build from the carcass of a whale, for instance, would be a sufficient way to survive for another year. (I don't think I am allowed to say `Eskimo' anymore) Very sorry, profound apologies.Shards you say? Why do bones have shards? Rocks have chunks, pieces, segments etc. Only bones have shards. Though I suppose that also there are shards of stone, as in our predecessers manipulation of stone into utensils. I think `shards' mean long pointy things that have been separated from an original bigger thing, and in there separation have become relatively long and pointy. I sure that there is a Monty Python skit in here somewhere. This is an off-topic query, but I suppose the best place to post it. As yes, Dr. Bauluo, yes. The "missing link" again, correct? I am fortwith undertaking an expedition to the storied Ozark Range where a humble methcooker has stumbled onto some fascinating bone shards. It could be the link itself. If so, it will be the basis for my monumental magnum opus, "Out of Arkansas: Rethinking Man's Origins"
One could even construct a "house of shards," could he not?
Buy 'em an Eskimo Pie and call it even. But yeah, you're not allowed to say it. The Eskimo are REALLY woke. Especially now, what with the midnight sun and all.
I heard a funny joke though when I worked an a salmon troller out of Prince Rupert. Greenhorn Newfie goes down to wharf to git a job on boat. Asks what the hours are. Told, only sun up to sun down. Ok, he says, when is sun up and, and when is sundown? Sun up is May, sundown is September.
Pretty bright for a Newfie to ask the question before signing on.
(I am sorry I don't think I am allowed to say `newf' `newfie' or even `Newfoundlander' tho' it is probably okay, as we are generally white Canadians of anglo/saxon and /or celtic heritage,.. disparage away.)

Were there any torrential mud slides in the subway that locals were spotted running frantically away from? Joey, I love you like the son I never had the chance to father abuse then abandon, but really you've got to get onboard with your colleagues' click-bait style. This isn't journalism remember, it's business. O-ki**?
JJ clearly bin hitin the baijiu hard.
