TGIF: Diwali Celebrations, Charity Murder Mystery Dinner, Moonglow Burlesque

The weekend is here! Time for fun, relaxation, and recharging the ol' batteries ahead of *gulp* Monday morning's alarm clock. Luckily enough, there’s plenty of fun stuff to keep you occupied over the weekend that doesn't necessarily involve getting blitzed. Our weekend roundup offers you some of the best.


Nov 14: Riviera Country Club Saturday market

Every Saturday, the verdant Riviera Country Club hosts a special Saturday Market, with plenty of food and drink, gift ideas, and a big bouncy castle for the kiddies. Free. 11am-5pm. Riviera Country Club

Nov 14: The Incredible Life of Song Qingling tour with Bespoke Travel Company

Few Chinese women have been more consequential or suffered so many of modern China’s ups and downs than Song Qingling. Learn more about her incredible life with a two-hour tour of her home and gardens on the banks of Houhai Lake led by historian Jeremiah Jenne. RMB 320 (including entrance ticket). 2-4pm. Nov 14: Diwali celebrations 

Diwali — also known as Deepavali and Divali — is here! The five-day Hindu festival of lights is one of the most popular festivals of the year, and celebrates “victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.” Given the tough year we’ve all had, we think that the timing couldn’t be better. This Saturday, Punjabi Indian Restaurant and Cultural Center is celebrating with a DJ, dancing, a lucky draw, and, of course, an absolutely incredible feast.

Not to be outdone, 3 Color Lotus Indian Restaurant is also hosting a big celebration with a huge range of dishes, live entertainment, henna painting, dances, and other surprise activities that you’ll have to attend to discover.

Nov 14: Charity murder mystery dinner at 4Corners

Take on the roles of classic Cluedo characters as you try to solve a murder mystery in a fun night in aid of Bethel China. Costumes are not required but are highly encouraged. Ticket includes a three-course meal, and 20 percent of the bar sales will be donated to Bethel. RMB 360. 6-10pm. 4Corners

Nov 14: Moonglow Cruise

Set sail with Moonglow Burlesque this weekend with a cruise-themed performance celebrating 10 years on stage. Moonglow Burlesque is a unique performance troupe based in Beijing, which brings on stage diverse entertainment in the authentic vintage Burlesque and Cabaret style. Formed in 2010, the troupe includes a diverse group of performers (dancers, singers, actors) from China, Russia, the US, South Africa, and Cuba, all with a rich background and professional education in dance and musical performance. Nov 14-15: Grand opening of BSK Qianmen Kitchen 

Celebrate the grand opening of Black Sesame Kitchen's new Qianmen Kitchen with a whole weekend of activities.
