Love in the Time of Corona: Businesses Bring Valentine's Day to You This Year
While the world ponders how many additional babies will be born in nine month's time on account of all the... uh... extracurricular indoor activities, you can bet that the number will increase after Friday thanks to a very homebound Valentine's Day. Aww, coronababies.
Making the best of a shitty situation, several venues around town are offering Valentine's packages and meals to be delivered straight to your door so that you can avoid any awkward public first-base mask fumbles. Let's take a look at what's on the cards for our love in the time of corona. Additionally, you can see all of this year's Valentine's Day events here but remember to call ahead to make sure they're still going on as planned.
Maison Flo
Maison Flo's takeaway menu says it's for two but reads more like it'll feed the entire family for the next week. As well as bread, salad, and a bottle of Cuvee Jean-Louis, this RMB 988 set for two includes a ham platter, foie gras, an Australian rib-eye steak, a whole Boston lobster, and two desserts. Good luck moving after that.
Hulu
Hulu has put together a special Valentine's weekend with three special romantic set meals, depending on whether you want to eat for breakfast, brunch, or dinner. Breakfast in Bed (RMB 399) includes croissants, banana bread, ham, gravlax, fruit, chocolate-dipped strawberries, and OJ, while the Brunch & Much (RMB 688) also includes a bottle of Bouvet Brut. Finally, the Special Menu comes with steak tartar, cold cuts, truffle-braised beef, dessert, a bottle of bubbly, and more. All are available for order Feb 14-16, 10.30am-9pm.
Moka Bros
Moka Bros have two Valentine's promotions this year, including a free smoothie with every Valentine's Day delivery order so as to "spread the love" and boost your immune system just that extra bit. In addition, they also have a range of delivery sets – plant-based, protein, or "His & Hers" – available until Feb 16 for 20 percent off.
El Barrio
Have a Mexican feast this Valentine's Day courtesy of El Barrio's set menu for RMB 298, which includes corn esquites and tortilla soup for starters, achiote chicken or Baja-style fish tacos, beef or prawn fajitas, and a chocolate Kahlua flan to finish. Order via Meituan or Eleme.
Bottega
Bottega is also getting in on the delivery action with a RMB 398, five-dish menu featuring grilled octopus with crispy baby potatoes, pan-fried barramundi, homemade gnocchi with beef cheek, and tiramisu, and of course a heart-shaped pizza, which looks, quite frankly, too good to share.
Comptoirs de France
Comptoirs de France get lovey-dovey this week with a range of heart-shaped cakes and pastries that include a heart puff, rich chocolate truffle cake, and raspberry and chocolate bonbons, which are all available for delivery. See the full details via their WeChat here.
Théatre Tea
CBD's Théatre Tea bakery has a couple of delivery cake sets available, including a peach white tea mousse cake (pictured above, RMB 498) and a strawberry yogurt cream cake (RMB 168). Add a bottle of bubbles for an additional RMB 380.
