Sep 2-3: Hirohisa Sake Pairing Dinner at Yotsuba
Classy sushi joint Yotsuba will hold a sake pairing dinner with sake from brewery Hirohisa at Yotsuba Lido on Sep 2 and at Yotsuba Zhongguancun on Sep 3. The owner and brewer Mr. Nishide Hirohisa will be on hand to share his stories of brewing this series. In addition to being the owner and brewer of Hirohisa Sake Factory, he is the student of Mr. Noguchi Naohiko, the most famous brewer/master in Japan.
The Hirohisa series sakes (Q, Kagami, and Shiro) represent Mr. Hirohisa's ideal of sake: pure, perfect, and with multiple layers of flavor. Only 150 bottles of the Q sake are produced every year, and all three of the series can only be purchased from Yotsuba in China. The dinner is priced at RMB 1,500 per person and they recommend making reservations. If you don't happen to make it to the dinner, from Sep 2-15, all Hirohisa sakes are also buy-two-get-one-free or buy-five-get-three-free.
Mr Chips Launches Weekend Brunch Menu
Purveyors of sophisticated (yet still satisfyingly deep-fried) fish and chips Mr. Chips have launched a weekend brunch/Sunday roast menu. This new menu builds on their current offerings, with brunch dishes such as eggs royale (that's eggs Benedict with smoked salmon to you and me, RMB 68) sitting alongside their Alaskan black codfish and chips (RMB 138). They also have a limited number of brunch cocktails, such as mimosas and bellinis for RMB 55 each. As we said when we visited for our main review, we're not in love with The Crib-based space but the brunch dishes are well priced and their fish and chips are very hard to beat. The brunch menu is available from 11.30am-3pm on Saturday and Sunday. Seats are limited, so it's best to book in advance via 132 6122 1151.
Shake Shack to open in Beijing late 2020
We're a little late to this news but in case you didn't hear already then get excited, because American chain Shake Shack has announced that is coming to Beijing in late 2020. Billing itself as the "modern-day version of a roadside burger stand," Shake Shack is known for its burgers, hot dogs, and milkshakes. Beijing will be Shake Shack's third city in the China region, following two branches in Hong Kong and one in Shanghai. Details – including where they plan to open – are thin on the ground at the moment but what we can probably expect is some Beijing-specific menu items; in Hong Kong they stock a milk tea shake, while Shanghaiers are privy to a cutesy-named Strawberry Yu(zu) Garden Shake.
