Booze News: Drink School Bar Dry, Slow Boat's Soju Beer, Australia Day at Little Creatures

Feeling thirsty? Wet your whistle with Booze News, our weekly wrap-up of the week's best bar deals, parties, drink concoctions, industry gossip, and more.

What better way to ring in the Year of the Pig than Wudaoying livehouse School Bar's annual drink-the-bar-dry party? Entry is free, drinks will be cheap, and rowdy punks Holy Shit (pictured at top) will play a rip-roaring set.

Any Aussies looking to celebrate their national day on the 26th should head straight to Little Creatures. The Beijing branch of this ridgy-didge (authentic) Western Australian brewery is serving true-blue grub from the Land Down Under like sausage sizzles and pavlovas, not to mention an all-day happy hour that renders all coldies (beer) to a bargain RMB 35. Get amongst it!

Have an affinity for South Korea, and their national drink soju? Then head to Slow Boat this Saturday for the unveiling of their collab beer with Busan brewers Gorilla: a very special soju barrel-aged beer. Gorilla brewmaster Paul Edwards will be on hand to answer questions about the brewing process, and kimchi fried chicken wings will be flowing to give you a taste of the Land of Morning Calm. Space is limited, so scan the poster's QR code above to ensure that you get a seat.

Over at Jing A's Xingfucun taproom, you can get both groomed and buzzed this Saturday afternoon with their annual Chinese New Year barbershop, basically Jing A's take on the Chinese tradition of getting a new 'do to usher in luck ahead of Spring Festival. While you wait for your free turn under the snippers, tuck into their three-course RMB 108 Brewer's Brunch. It features choices like eggs benedict, banana pancakes, double cheeseburgers, and more. Jing A is also marking CNY with their hoppy and citrusy 6.5 percent Lucky 8 Lager.

Finally, stop by Great Leap's new Lido location this weekend to not only satisfy your tastebuds with the brews but also feast your eyes on the latest creation by Plastered 8: a 17sqm Ultraman installation. With that, the taproom joins the ranks of Plastered 8's other design-kissed bars The Black Moth and Vending Machine
