EAT: New Avocado Tree Sanyuanqiao, New Salads at Slow Boat, Brotzeit Summer Menu

Purveyors of healthy Mexican-style food, Avocado Tree, have opened a fourth restaurant in Beijing in Sanyuanqiao. Their largest store to date at 180sqm, the restaurant is located on the third level of Gateway Plaza, in mall's bright and open atrium (which also hosts a Cup One and a Starbucks).

The store has a calming, on-brand, avocado-green color scheme, supplemented by cute avocado plushies that have been designed by the store's owner. As ever, it’s a good place to grab lunch but the expanded seating options mean it’s also a handy spot for coffee and snacks in the afternoon once the lunch rush is over.

Speaking of snacks, Avocado Tree have added a couple such options to their menu existing menu of burritos, rice bowls, and salads, including overnight oats and coconut chia seed pudding (also good for breakfast on the go). People avoiding dairy will want to try Avocado Tree’s soy and coconut milk lattes and mochas.

Over at Slow Boat, the brewery is revamping their salad selection, adding a charred romaine garden salad, a BLT salad, a curry shrimp and lime salad, and a beetroot feta salad. We've got our eye on the BLT salad, which seems like a healthy take on a classic BLT sandwich, featuring Slow Boat’s signature lettuce mix (kale, Romaine lettuce, spinach, and rucola), cinnamon-pickled cauliflower, radish, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, quail egg, and bacon, topped with red wine vinegar dressing. Alternatively, try the beetroot feta salad (seasonal fruits, beetroot slices, pickled red onion, feta cheese, and orange-ginger-sesame dressing) on the venue's 没有肉 Monday, when meat-free burgers and salads are buy-one-get-one-free. The salads are available starting Wed, Aug 1.

Speaking of salads, German restaurant Brotzeit has just launched a selection of summer specials, including a design-your-own salad option. Starting from RMB 58, the menu allows you to choose your salad base, a protein (such as grilled chicken, seared tuna or smoked salmon), a "superfood" like avocado or mixed nuts, and to finish, a choice of homemade dressing. If salads don't do it for you, even in the hot weather, try the grilled meat platter (from RMB 388, serves two to three) filled with grilled pork neck kebabs, curry-marinated chicken, garlic sausage, and bacon-wrapped pork loin, served alongside sweetcorn and potato wedges.
