Summiting the Heights of Hospitality: Jens Corder Joins China World Summit Wing, Beijing as General Manager

Jens Corder joined China World Summit Wing, Beijing as General Manager on November 1, 2017, fresh off a stint as general manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Tianjin. China World Summit Wing, Beijing is his fourth hotel as general manager and his seventh year in the General Manager role. He has held many executive positions at hotels in Asia since 2002, working in China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and India. We talked to him about his goals for the hotel and his views on hospitality and service.

In your opinion, what makes a great hotel?
An excellent hotel is one that focuses on people. I am proud to stay that I have joined the ranks of a great hospitality minded team, a group of professionals that focus on details and have a passion for delivering exceptional guest experiences.

What sets China World Summit Wing, Beijing apart from other hotels?
I would like to think that our first strength is our people and the way we deliver quality experiences to our guests.

Secondly, being a part of China World Mall is an exceptional strength. This complex is like no other in China, with the convenience of having four sister hotels right next door and with seamless connectivity to a variety of facilities including shops, restaurants, and lifestyle facilities.

Of course, the tower itself is iconic, with the hotel lobby all the way up on the 64th floor.  The hotels' rooms, located on floors 64 to 77, offer unprecedented panoramic views of Beijing. To top it off we have two floors dedicated to wellness housing the highest spa in the city, our signature CHI, The Spa, by Shangri-La, with a fully equipped gym and a 25-meter pool in the clouds.

I also shouldn’t skip our distinctive food and beverage offerings. The 80th floor houses our quintessential Lounge and well-known Atmosphere Bar.  Grill79 with views out over the Forbidden City in the distance and is renowned for elegant yet unobtrusive service and excellent Western food.  On the 4th floor, we have an elegant Cantonese restaurant, The Seventh Son, The Red Chamber, which serves succulent and crisp Peking duck, a traditional Noodle Bar, and a Japanese Restaurant, Nadaman.

What kind of impressions and experiences do you strive to deliver to your guests?
I want all of our guests to really feel like they are at the heart of Beijing and staying at the peak of our tour with views out towards the Forbidden City certainly helps them to discover the city.  Attentive, unobtrusive, discreet, warmth and smile are all words I use to describe our service, a special kind of service ‘service from the heart’.

What have you done to create such an impression?
I am proud to stay that I have joined the ranks of a great hospitality-minded team. With this in mind, I will look to enhance our service style, with a focus on consistency and on personalization. Being such a food and beverage-focused hotel, I will also look to bring inventive and fun food and beverage offerings, great catering concepts, and a focus on ‘guest experiences’, ensuring that the soft touches in the hotel live up to expectations.
