Experience New Nectars at Caravan's Rare Grapes Wine Dinner, Jun 22

If you like your wine tastings to be a little less stuffy and more action-packed then join Caravan on June 22 as they present their Rare Grapes Wine Dinner in collaboration with China Wines and Spirits. This event will feature five wines made with uncommon grapes and paired with a five-course Moroccan-inspired meal, along with music from the one and only Peter Murchison.

The wines chosen for the event all hail from various regions around Europe, including Kavalieros from Greece, Valpolicella Superiore from Italy, Terrassen Federspiel from Austria, Monsaraz from Portugal, and Gros Manseng from France. The paired dishes also come from the wine counterpart's country of origin but will feature a slight Moroccan twist, owner Badr Benjelloun's specialty. These mouthwatering dishes include olive and eggplant rolls with feta cheese, harissa chicken, homemade merguez shakshuka tacos, 24-hour slow roasted lamb with red rice and vegetables, and 1,000 hole crepes doused in an orange flower honey. These fascinating fusions of flavor and culinary cultures should make for an event to remember, especially for any self-professed winos out there looking for something different to do on a Wednesday night.

The meal wouldn’t be complete without a little musical digestif. After dinner, experience the acoustic guitar-wielding skills of Peter Murchison, a man who has performed alongside beatnik poet Allen Ginsburg, and specializes in various flavors of esoteric American folk music. His influences include bluesmen like Mississippi John Hurt, Rev. Gary Davis, and Blind Blake as well as guitar sorcerers like John Fahey, Leo Kottke, and Jerry Garcia.

It seems like Caravan has every sense covered for this particular culinary journey. Seats are limited, so contact them today to reserve a table at this unique dinner, or check out their listing here for more details.
