Sugar Shack to Revert to Former Name Pyro Pizza, Open Two More Beijing Locations

For anyone who lived in Wudaokou before March 2014, Pyro Pizza seems like a distant memory. Starting later this year, you'll be able to relive those student days, as Sugar Shack will change its name back to Pyro Pizza, and two new Pyro locations will open. One will be closer to the city, on the west side, and another will be in Beijing's southern university district, Rich Akers, marketing guru at both Pyro Pizza and Sugar Shack, as well as Lush and Gung Ho Pizza, told the Beijinger.

The name change came about because the minds behind Pyro Pizza wanted Sugar Shack to represent the best parts of both Lush and Pyro, but still be a new concept. So this is where Sugar Shack came from. The reason for the return to their original moniker is simple: nostalgia. "It has such great associations for us. So while we still have the chance we thought, well, let's change it back! If we're going to do it, now's the time, before we break ground on the two new sites in early March."
 

Investment is coming from a regular customer at Lush and Pyro. "I think he even worked part time at Lush one summer," Rich says. "It's been a total dream for us, having this guy who has been a part of our story for so long join us like this. He was a student at BLCU, and he'd gone into big things but recently decided he wanted to invest in our company, to help us develop and be a part of it."

As for the menu, fans needn't worry. Nothing too drastic will change in terms of their food offering, except the usual seasonal and occasional changes to the menu. We know we're excited to relive our "Chinese learning" days up Wudaokou, where the nights, starting with Pyro Pizza, were incredible, but regrettably, not much Chinese learning was ever done.
