Beijing Gender Studies Students Speak Up to Prep for The Vagina Monologues
It seems that there's still more to say. Female Beijing Foreign Studies University (Bei Wai) students decided to promote their November 7 production of stage drama The Vagina Monologues, only this time using a series of photographs.
The 17-photo series was organized by BFSU's Gender Studies Group. Each student wrote their "monologue" on a whiteboard, which they then held up to be photographed. One read “My Vagina Says (我的阴道说): No one gets in unless I say yes," and the more popular “My Vagina Says: I need it! I want it!."
The school's Party Secretary Mr. Lu said to the media, “I don’t have a comment. But yes, I’m aware of this. This drama play is a part of our Girls’ Day celebration in BFSU, the content had been censored by the school youth corps committee, so that is fine."
Not everyone supported this form of free speech. “They just need attention,“ said one poster. Do you really have to say that word out loud? To prove what?” said another.
