Talking Tunes: Daniel Powter Announces Date as We Prepare For The Killers and Bieber Fever
After the confirmation that R&B legend Herbie Hancock is coming to town on November 9 comes the news that Canadian singer-songwriter Daniel Powter will be bringing along his unique blend of saccharine piano balladry for a November date. The "Bad Day" singer will play the ThinkPad Space on November 3. And this comes a couple of days after we found out that Coloradan pop rock quintet OneRepublic would also be visiting in November. They play Workers' Gymnasium on the 4th. Seems that as the cold snap sets in next month, there'll be plenty of reason to not enter full hiberantion mode yet. If you like middle-of-the-road pop standards, that is.
Smart Beijing is reporting that organisers of the upcoming Storm Festival down in Shanghai seem pretty hopeful that they can still get Nicki Minaj over to China. They also mention the frankly thrilling prospect of bringing genre defining kingpin Afrika Bambaataa over for a show on the same bill, and mention the chance that he could also be Beijing bound as part of the jaunt. We'll be certain to update on any further confirmation.
Split Works have announced their upcoming program. They're bringing controversial Canadian multi-instrumentalist Mac DeMarco to town on November 29. Aussie rockers Witch Hats are also in line for a China tour reaching Beijing on November 9. And LA-based Nite Jewel will unload her electronica stylings on XP October 12.
To the best of what's upcoming.
- M.A.D. Festival continues apace at MOMA tomorrow evening (Sep 27) when local indie darlings Residence A head a lineup including White+, We Are Not Invited and Shanghai outfit Duck Fight Goose.
- Norwegian rapper Xiao Ou launches his new record with a release party at Temple, also on Friday night.
- Justin Bieber is in town this coming Sunday night (Sep 29). One or two cases of Bieber fever should be expected in and around the MasterCard Center that night.
- Despite a late venue change, The Killers are still set to rock up on October 1 at ThinkPad Space. Tickets still seem to be available here, but who knows for how long?
- If you are too late for The Killers tickets, local post-punk outfit P.K. 14 are launching their new record at Yugong Yishan also on October 1.
