Talking Tunes: Top of the European Picks
The video for David Bowie's new track "The Next Day" that has been causing such a stir
There's a big seven days coming up with a load of our Editor's Picks occurring over the coming week – specifically tomorrow, and there's a wee bit for everyone with a raft of different flavors.
Like your contemporary jazz? Temple has you covered tonight when they welcome Canadian outfit LMT Connection for the start of a China tour. In the mood for some blues? The Beijing CD Blues Festival continues over at Ritan Park. Or perhaps you like your tunes with more of a grungey bent? Then catch Skip Skip Ben Ben over at MAO Livehouse.
We mentioned here last week that with a mere three weeks until the Backstreet Boys kick off their 20-Year Anniversary Tour in Beijing, there was still no word on where you could pick up tickets. Well, now there is. You can get them here. Alas, the cheapest option has already expired and your looking at a cool RMB 480 to see the boys from the nosebleeds now. You know it'll be worth it, though.
Welsh hardcore rockers Brutality Will Prevail will be in town for a show at MAO Livehouse on June 2.
Some highlights of the next week:
- Get your fix of brutal death metal from Coprocephalic at MAO Livehouse tonight (May 9).
- Get in on a night of French indie electro at Temple tomorrow night (May 10) when The Agency and We Are Not Invited rock up.
- Norwegian electro outfit Flunk hit Yugong Yishan on Friday night (May 10).
- French cover band Nouvelle Vague provide some of their signature sultry bossa nova on Tuesday night (May 14).
- Keep it European with Italian electro duo Serpenti at Temple, also on Tuesday.
We like Nouvelle Vague here. In fact, we think they're great. So here they are to play us out with a cover of Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart."
