Talking Tunes: Record Store Day, Hardcore and Polish Rock

Happy Thursday, music fans. Let's get to the pick of the coming seven days in the Beijing music world, which is Record Store Day on Saturday. The lovely chaps at XP are having a Record Store Day party with the vinyl-only local label Genjing Records. Good on 'em as music does sound better on wax. It adds atmosphere (and, yes, that was the reason we started the post with Joy Division).

What else is going on, you ask? All of this:

  • Tonight (Apr 18) it's Second Hand Sounds at Migas – see if you can convince them to open the roof for you.
  • Randy Abel and his Stable will have them dancing on the tables at Blue Stream on Saturday.
  • We don't know why Molly needs saving but Saving Molly and pals (including Human Centipede) will be playing hardcore all night at School on Sunday (Apr 21). No mention on whether that's Black Flag-style American hardcore or Helter Skelter-style happy hardcore.
  • Nothing says St. George's Day like Polish rock. Catch Negatyw next Tuesday.
  • Beijing's very own Beatles tribute band, the cunningly named Beijing Beatles, are playing Salud next Wednesday Fubar on Friday night (Apr 19). There was a Hard Day's Night joke there somewhere in there but we decided to Let It Be. Ouch.

Moving swiftly on, Wordy and Soulspeak (who both know their way around a record bag) hold their album launch at Yugong Yishan next Friday. That's worth putting in your diary. There's plenty more shows coming up that you might want to get your tickets for now – have a look at the Editor's Picks in our Music Events.

It's Big Suge Knight's birthday, so here's some classic Snoop from his Doggy Dogg days to play us out. Have fun.
