Talking Entertainment: Your Weekend Guide to the Arts
Expect a “Wealth Star” in the next installment of the Star Wars saga. A much older Luke Skywalker will be bringing harmony and prosperity to the galaxy. The Jedi Knight’s mission will be to reunite all in Heaven by ending a rivalry between two new characters, “The Chairman” and “The General.”
According to netizens and various script leaks on Sina Weibo, those are the Chinese characteristics that will be incorporated into Star Wars Episode VII to attract China’s booming entertainment market. Seriously? This is a joke. The Star Wars franchise, which was recently picked up by Disney, may do better in China with a scene or two shot in Beijing and a Chinese cameo.
We’ll see if the above formula used by the producers of Iron Man 3 works or not soon enough. According to Forbes, one local cinema has boldly advertised an April 26 release date in China for Iron Man 3, although there has been no official announcement from the producers. They are waiting for Robert Downey Jr.’s visit to the capital this weekend to say anything. It has been made clear, however, that the film will be launched in China before its US release date and Chinese audiences will be privy to an exclusive scene featuring Fan Bingbing.
