Buy Art, Help Chinese Kids with Autism

Autism's become a very real problem for Chinese children, but the country's continued lack of infrastructure for supporting special needs education makes it all the more important that groups like Golden Wings exist. They help address children's autism with art therapy. This weekend, you get a chance to help out, too.

Yuanfen Flow, the creative consulting group based in 798, is hosting an art auction to benefit Golden Wings, a nonprofit organization that helps battle the negative effects of childhood autism with art therapy.

There will be two kinds of paintings for sale: self-portraits donated by kids studying at the Alpha Partners summer program (they've been learning cubism and asymmetry), as well as prints of works by the autistic kids themselves who've been part of the Giving Wings program.

Some will be auctioned and others will be for general sale. Twenty percent of the general sale items will benefit the families of the children directly, with the other 80 percent supporting Golden Wing's programs. All auction proceeds will go to Golden Wings.

The event will also be an opportunity for the high school-aged Alpha Partners students to interact with the autistic children and exchange ideas about art and the positive impact it has on their lives.

The auction will take place this Saturday (2.30-5.30pm) at Yuanfen Flow's space in 798.
