View From Gongti: Beijing Guoan 1-0 Dalian Aerbin
It was another exciting Friday night at Worker’s Stadium as Beijing Guoan defeated Dalian Aerbin 1-0. The win puts Guoan only two points back of Marcello Lippi’s Guangzhou Evergrande as the season goes into a two week break.
The Beijing fans continue coming out to support their team, this time nearly 37,000 packed into Gongti to cheer on the home side and they didn’t leave disappointed. In the 25th minute, Xu Liang picked out Wang Xiaolong with a beautiful ball, splitting the Aerbin defense. Wang calmly slotted it past the keeper putting the Beijingers up by one, all they’d need on the night.
Aerbin and Chinese national team star, Yu Dabao, had a rough night, with fans jeering him at every touch. Yu was a Guoan target in the offseason but his choice to go elsewhere frustrated many fans. Emerging Guoan star, Piao Cheng, had a chance to finish things off with a late goal in the dying minutes, but his shot was just wide.
It didn’t matter though, when the final whistle was blown celebrations began around the stadium as Guoan won their sixth straight league match. It’s exciting times in the capital as the Beijingers appear to have gotten past their early season struggles and are ready to challenge for the title.
