CD Blues Cafe Closes: A Stroll Down Memory Lu

With the sudden and sad news that Beijing music scene stalwart CD Blues Cafe has gone the way of D-22 (and closed), we got to remembering the good old days when it was the standout live music venue in the city. As one tends to do when an old friend moves on, we began thumbing through our old photo albums and remembering some of the better times.

Below is a set of snaps, in all their grainy glory, that jogged some fond memories of the old place.

A few years back, around '03/'04, CD Blues Cafe hosted a series of TBJ monthly music showcases featuring artists like Second Hand Rose, Brain Failure, MuMa and Long Kuan.

A packed house to see Long Kuan.

MuMa rock the CD Blues Cafe.

Have you been in Beijing long enough to remember when it was two floors?

I remember performing at that show with Cui Jian in 2003. At the time my band "The Colored Rhinos" supported Cui Jian's band. We used to play at the CD cafe almost on a weekly basis when Zhao Ming E (Drummer from "Hei Bao" Black Panther) was managing the CD cafe.

I am now Jorge Arrowsmith from The Beijing Beatles. www.thebeijingbeatles.com

The best show we organized at the then-CD Cafe was with Cui Jian during this period (circa 2003), unfortunately we don't have any existing pics from that showcase. If anyone has any they'd like to share, send us a message.
