Out Now - the Beijinger - May 2012: Beijing's Oddest Buildings

Beijing's a city that has grown up a lot in the last couple of decades. The skyline is now festooned with buildings that beggar belief and defy description. This month, we're taking a long hard look at the structures that experts have deemed the city's ugliest. Some we're glad to defend, others we're happy to deride. Now you get to make up your own mind.

Elsewhere in the issue, we go from examining odd constructions to the most ecologically virtuous ones, we tag along at Beijing's graffiti scene and we pit the city's best (and worst) beefs jerky hoof-to-hoof. We also play volleyball with SALT's Gaby Alves, try our hand at sewing school and find out all about how Beijing will mark International Day Against Homophobia.

The rest of the pages are packed with what you'd expect: all the content that matters. The best interviews, the events that count, all of the new bars, restaurants and shops, plus more prizes than you could stack into a tower.

Correction, April 2: After we went to print, we discovered that the restaurant featured in Alleyway Gourmet (p27) is no longer in business.

Not sure where to point this out... Any editors at the Beijinger realize yet that the main title/web address is misspelled here? Have seen it for a few days now--was hoping someone would correct it, but still there today... http://www.thebeijinger.com/magazine/the-Beijinger-May-2012-Beijings-Oddest-Buidlings

amemorylost,
It's called the Beijing Emperor Hotel. It seems everyone, themselves included, wants the Emperor to be part of Beijing so we're happy to claim them right back. As it stands, the location of the hotel is the Yanjiao Economic-Technological Development Area and that is just a stone's throw over the river from Tongzhou.
