Win Tickets to Love, Sex and the IRS!

We’ve mentioned the steady stream of independent theater projects coming through Beijing, and now they’re culminating in the big one: a fall production of Love, Sex and the IRS. Sit back and laugh as friends Jon and Leslie fake a marriage for the tax break (as if you’ve never considered it) and then go to great lengths to follow through with their ruse when an IRS agent shows up.

Staged by Beijing Playhouse, this version is also packed with the cross-dressing and Three’s Company-type antics that no doubt brought the original its success. Read on for more about the community-based cast, and win yourself some tickets!

For the uninitiated, Beijing Playhouse is the city’s first and largest English language theater company. They’ve been hugely committed to getting the Beijing community involved each year in volunteer productions of a wide variety of shows, including the Broadway musical Guys and Dolls, Shakespearean tragedy Romeo and Juliet and the 1936 comedy You Can’t Take it With You.

This time, director Chris Verrill puts Andrew Tait – a former Beijing Radio talk show host – in a dress and a blonde wig. (Very Miss Piggy - see above comparison.) We’ve also got Peter Fox – a University of Pittsburgh-educated playwright – starring as Jon Trachtman, whose fiancée eventually goes rogue on him with none other than his cross-dressing roommate.

If you can't tell, it's going to be quite the hammy theater experience. But hey, who goes to community theater not hoping for just that kind of payoff?

We have tickets to give away for opening night on Friday, September 9, as well as the matinee show on Sunday, September 18. To win tickets, leave a comment below and tell us your favorite cross-dresser. Also please tell us how many tickets you want (we reserve the right to limit your request to a reasonable amount) and for which performance. Good luck!

That seems to be a great perfomance!

My favorite cross-dresser are Joe and Jerry (Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon)from the classic movie "Some Like It Hot", which I love so much.

I need two tickets for the 18th of September.

My favourite cross dresser has to be Dustin Hoffman in "Tootsie" and his classic line: "I was a better man with you as a woman than I ever was with a woman as a man."

Two tickets to the Sep 18 Sunday matinee will be great. Thanks!

Hello there all,

Another Aussie here (although half Italian) and would LOVE to see this show. Looks like a hoot - and don't we all need that after a hard week at the office??
My favourite cross-dresser? As a proud Aussie, I cannot go past our amazing PRISCILLA Queen of the Desert characters. If you haven't seen this yet - do yaself a favour!!!

Cheers

Note: Wrestler Mike Rotunda (aka Irwin R. Schyster - the IRS) won't be in the play, so don't go looking for him. We just can't resist a nice photo of a WWE star...

Aside from the Miss Piggy comparison.... X( ....any woman who can name WWE Legends, by name no less, is pretty cool in my book. Wink

Want 2-6 tickets if possible Smile

This is easy!
It's definitely 'Divine' from the John Waters Films, most famously the woman in "Pink Flamingos".
Her best quote is "You know who I am, bitch! I'm the filthiest person alive, that's who I am!."
Good stuff.
I would like 2 tickets to Friday or Sunday, it doesn't matter.

This event sounds super cool. I would love to go check it out.

As for my favorite cross-dresser, I would have to say, comedian Tyler Perry as Madea. 'Diary of a Mad Black Woman' was absolutely hilarious! Check it out if you haven't already.

The Friday premier with my girlfriend would be great!

Thanks,
John

OMG, you guys this sounds like and awesome play!! I think it's awesome that you guys are supporting this type of independent productions, this is sumthing I'd expect to see off Broadway and it is delicious to experience it here!!

MY FAVORITE cross-dresser is my late grandmother's maid, Ruth Gina, he was a great cook and had a great sense of style even while cleaning and was the funniest guy I have ever met.... Second to him none other than RuPaul, I loved his TV show, and he was really funny cursing people out lol.

Anyway, I would like two tickets for the Friday premier!!!
