Tiger Translate: The Pets, Perdel & Round 2 Results

The Tiger Translate Battle of Bands had its second round of heats last weekend. Electro-partiers Pet Conspiracy and pop rockers Perdel served their fans well as headliners; and two more bands, Chendian Riji (Precipitation Diary) and Hell City, won a prize of RMB 4999 each and their spots in the semi-final.

Having 32 battlers in the first round makes each “battle’s” lineup like lucky draws, and Friday’s luck at Tango was not so good. Maybe it was that the stage was too big for those young rockers, all four competitors looked a little awkward up there, including the opening band, which was one of the three metal bands playing on the night. It was almost natural to have a metal group as the winner for Friday, they certainly had the most potential among its competitors; and their two groups of dedicated supporters helped a lot with heating up the atmosphere. I was quite surprised that the band has been formed for only less than a year.

Good that the organizers from Tiger Beer have thought about how the crowd would feel about the young groups, that they managed to get a great headliner for each show and Pet Conspiracy saved Friday night. Drummer Edo’s arm still hasn’t recovered from the injury from over two months ago and the rain kept some people from going to a gig or even going out but the Pets still brought a good dance as always.

The battle went back to MAO Livehouse on Sunday, for the first time there was no metal band among the battlers. How could we keep kicking without the heaviness? Exit A came to play as guest band. But the climax certainly came with Perdel, possibly MAO’s female crowd’s favorite act. After another night of body diving and surfing, Hell City made the way to semi-final with its old school punk tunes.
