News You Might Have Missed

Here’s a look at some news and opinions for the past week from the drain of sexpats on Beijing to China’s environmental efforts.

Are foreigners ruining the education and future of Chinese workers? An article from the Global Times suggests that “the get-rich-quick cohort of middle-aged men” in Beijing are nothing more than “aging, sexist, greedy and grubby foreign men”.

Police have begun a 100-day campaign of raiding suspect hair salons/massage parlors.

Beijing has rolled out new environmentally-friendly sanitation trucks. Does this mean they’ll stop watering the road when it’s raining?

In other environmental news, it seems China's economic boom cooled the planet temporarily due to sulfur emissions from coal-burning. Meanwhile, China and the UK reach a space agreement over China’s ecological efforts.

Beijing plans to develop 42 suburban towns in an effort to move industry and people out of the city center.

As to the first suggestion...the idea that there are enough of these guys in Beijing to actually "ruin the education and future of Chinese workers" is so ridiculous it's past laughable. It's past laughable, and into "is anyone really stupid enough to believe that?" I have no argument with the idea that these guys are around–I see them all the time and they disgust me as much as anyone else. But the education and future of Chinese workers, if it is ruined, is going to be ruined ultimately by their own greedy, corrupt system and people–not by the couple hundred dirty old men hanging around Beijing looking for easy money and easy lays.

As to the final piece of "news," I'm sorry folks, but we can't have it both ways. We can't go running around screaming about global warming and climate change because that's the "cool" and politically correct position to take, blaming coal burning for warming the planet, and then say the reason the planet isn't warmed is coal burning.

It seems the entire world has forgotten basic principles of scientific research and logical reasoning. Occam's Razor says "the hypothesis with the fewest new assumptions is probably the right one." The old medical school adage runs, "when you hear hoofbeats, don't look for zebras." If the globe isn't warming up, the most likely answer is global warming alarmists were wrong. That's not a stretch. After all, they were wrong about us running out of food, wrong about global cooling, etc. Politically motivated science is junk science.

It's actually pretty insulting when you think about it. We've been told that the past 100 years of coal burning since the Industrial Revolution is going to warm the planet. Now we're being told that less than 10 years of China doing the EXACT SAME THING is having the complete opposite effect. Lol
