Talking Balls: "Let's Make Love Everywhere In Our Guangzhou" Special Edition
It's Asian Games time. The fun and frolics kicked off last Friday and judging by the slogan for the Games there will be fun and frolics aplenty. "Let's Make Love Everywhere in Our Guangzhou" is the slogan in question and who are we to go against their wishes? There's no word as to whether this was a masterstroke from the Guangzhou tourist board, Chinglish-Babelfish translation issues or comment on the rumours that the Athlete's Village regularly runs out of their enormous supply of prophylactic devices.
Team China is hotly tipped to sweep the medals at the Asiad (they are already 50 ahead of South Korea on the medal table) but they won't be doing so in Men's Football. After last week's loss to Japan some pride was salvaged with a 2-1 win over Kyrgyztan and a 3-0 victory over Malaysia taking them through to the second round. The match was against South Korea and there's no prizes for guessing that the Koreans won - a humiliating 3-0 in this case - and Team China has crashed out. They did all of this without the suspended Wang Dalei. Despite his apology for calling Chinese fans "a bunch of dogs" and a "a bunch of SB" he is still faced with an indefinite bunch of not playing.
Better news for Chinese football is that the Women's team began their tournament with a 10-1 rout of Jordan. With all the footballers that she's dated you'd think she might score more than once. Also, Shanghai Shenhua claim that an unnamed European team has offered GBP 1.5 million for soccer's new poster boy, Feng Renliang. They stated that he's not for sale and the player himself - showing an alarming lack of ambition if it is the case - said he would rather retire at Shanghai. Hmmm.
Yao Ming might not be playing in the Asian Games but he has wished his countrymen well: "Just relax and go for it. Try your best to get a good result. Of course, everyone knows the result I am talking about." If you do then please tell the Team China basketballers.
Here is a list of some sports where China has already won gold at the Asiad:
Swimming - including 14-year-old Ye Shiwen in the women's 400m individual medley
Weightlifting - a world record for Li Ping in the Women's 53kg category
Badminton - Men's Team, even though Lin Dan does not enjoy badminton.
Sport Dance - China, ahem, swept the floor taking all five golds.
101 medals and counting ...
Finally, here's some pictures of a bike crash for those of you who stand on the corner of Gongti waiting for taxis to crash.

Re: Talking Balls: "Let's Make Love Everywhere In Our ...
You're right, it's not the official English-language slogan but a little digging on our part should be able to clean the matter up:
There are signs painted across Guangzhou, by some branch or the other of the city government, that include the Chinese phrase 让我们的广州到处充满爱, which translated into English is "Let our Guangzhou be full of love everywhere".
There have been claims that this sign has since been seen around town in English but with the translation having become "Let's make love everywhere in our Guangzhou". Some have even claimed to have seen it on the official Asian Games site at one point.
We're going to sit on the fence for now because, as entirely believable this is, there have been no photos so far.

Where in the world did you get this slogan? The real one is the less ridiculous, but completely creepy "Thrilling Games, Harmonious Asia."
