New Openings: The Olive Cafe

The former Olive has gone through a recent remodeling (and minor name change), and the result is welcoming – near floor-to-ceiling windows bathe the front area in natural light, while the wide back section offers open views of the kitchen. The Mediterranean/Californian menu remains much the same, with the addition of fresh juices and smoothies (RMB 15-20).

A moderately proportioned Greek salad (RMB 40) was topped with thick slices of feta, while a grilled vegetable sandwich (RMB 30) came piping-hot on freshly baked foccacia, cooked to ideal tenderness, with the sundried tomato aioli and blue cheese spread combining forces for a tangy – albeit messy – punch. The exclamation point, however, was the dark chocolate and espresso cake (RMB 30) drizzled in raspberry sauce with a side of ice cream.
