New Around Town: A Taste of Salt

The highly anticipated opening of SALT Contemporary Cuisine, located on second floor of Trio in Lido, was more crowded than the Beijing subway during rush hour. The opening was rather ambitious, drawing a crowd a bit too big for the relatively small restaurant. Given the masses, the free-flowing alcohol and the heated floors, we were mopping up the sweat (gross, but salt-related, so we thought we'd share). Paparazzi bulbs flashed as guests filled up on champagne and finger foods. Working meticulously in the open kitchen, the kitchen crew prepared spoon-sized bites - foie gras with whipped cream, popcorn with ceviches, and duck breast with plum sauce – all delicious if you got a piece, but a large crowd hovered around the kitchen door and the food disappeared in seconds. Competitive eaters though we are, we were still beat down in the snack struggle and left a little unsure of their culinary offerings. But a bit of mystery is good, especially since we’re returning for a proper meal and a review for the January issue.
